	Job Description
	An engineer officer is responsible for the safe and efficient running of all the technical aspects of the vessel. The officer works as part of a sophisticated management team, and has responsibilities that extend to the supervision of the engine room ratings. SSTG (Ship Safe Training Group) look after the training of engineering officer cadets for over 30 Merchant Navy companies, and they offer three different study options for cadetships; HND / HNC, Foundation Degree and Honours Degree. Training typically lasts 3 years for HND / HNC and Foundation Degree routes and about 4 years for the Honours Degree route. During this period you will spend time both at college or University studying and time at sea working. There are intakes at different intervals in the year: September, January and April/May.
